3G football pitch opened at Aylsham FC’s Youngs Park
The official opening of the new 3G pitch at Youngs Park in Aylsham took place last week.
The community of Aylsham is celebrating a significant milestone with the official opening of its brand-new 3G pitch, a state-of-the-art facility that promises to transform local sports and community engagement.
The all-weather facility has been built at Aylsham Football Club's Youngs Park, off Cawston Road. It comes after The Youngs Community Sports Trust and Aylsham FC received a grant worth £543,816 from the Premier League, The FA and Football Foundation. This is on top of a £250,000 grant received from the Greater Norwich Growth Board (GNGB) through the Infrastructure Investment Fund.
The official opening ceremony took place on Sunday 1 September, with local dignitaries, sports figures, and members of Aylsham Football Club in attendance. The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by football activities from Aylsham FC youth teams on the new pitch that is to be known as the JB Postle 3G Arena.
Ian Potter, Aylsham FC Chairman and trustee of the Youngs Community Sports Trust, said: “This took three years of planning and a huge effort by everyone involved from the Trust, Youngs Park committee and Aylsham FC. The story and the journey has been compelling and reinforces the fantastic work all the volunteers do. We’ve got such a great story to tell – that’s why we’ve got the investment.
“We’re not just doing it for today; we’re doing it for the youngsters and community of tomorrow. We’ve built something that’s going to be here for years to come.”
Ian Grange, Norfolk County FA Deputy CEO added: “I am delighted to see this project delivered and I am incredibly proud of the work of both the Youngs Park Trust and Aylsham Football Club to make this project a reality. This new 3G pitch will enable Aylsham Football Club to grow its affiliated team numbers and recreational football programmes, as we as enabling wider community groups and grassroots clubs to participate in a range of footballing activities.”
