The Wensum Print Sunday Junior Cup Final 2024
The Wensum Print Sunday Junior Cup Final 2024
Martham U18s face Costessey Sports U18s in this season’s Wensum Print Sunday Junior Cup Final on Sunday 19 May at Harrod Sport Arena, The FDC.
The first of the two sides competing for the trophy is the home side, Martham U18. They currently compete in the Norfolk Combined Youth League U18 Premier League. Their opponents are Costessey Sports U18 United, who also compete in the Norfolk Combined Youth League U18 Premier League. This will be the second time the teams have met this season with Costessey Sports winning 3-0 only a month ago. The teams are due to meet in the reverse league fixture on 31st May.
Martham U18 currently sit in eighth place of nine teams winning three of their twelve league matches, drawing two and losing seven leaving them on ten points (due to a point deduction). The team have unfortunately not been able to replicate their form of last season where they finished third so will be looking to finish a disappointing season with some silverware.
When asked what it means to the Club, Martham U18s Manager, David Cornwell said: “The U18’s are the steppingstones between youth and adult football. Having a competitive U18 team in a cup final makes us incredibly proud and is a promising step for the future of the club. It is a great experience for the young players, and we wish them the best of luck.”
Costessey Sports U18 are currently third having enjoyed a great season following winning the league last season. Having played fourteen league matches, they have won nine, drawn two and lost three leaving them on twenty-eight points (due to a point deduction). They have an outside chance of replicating the success of last season but need results to go in their favour. I’m sure they will be looking to add another trophy to their cabinet this afternoon.
When speaking about what reaching the final meant to him and the club, Costessey Sports U18s Manager, Simon Blower said: “When we entered the Sunday Junior Cup, fundamentally as a youth U18’s team, we saw it as a challenge just to see how far we could get, knowing we would encounter more established adult teams at some point within the competition. This is a fantastic achievement for our club and it’s the first time an U18’s team in history has reached the final beating some strong teams along the way.”
