The One Broker Veterans Cup Final 2022-23
The One Broker Veterans Cup Final 2022-23
The One Broker Veterans Cup final is the second in the programme of Norfolk County Cup Finals. The final sees Cringleford Veterans play Sprowston on Friday 21 April. The game kicks off at 7:45pm and tickets can only be purchased online.
Cringleford Veterans compete in the One Broker Veterans League, Premiership and are currently unbeaten having won all eight of their League matches. Cringleford started their Cup run with a 3-1 away win against Aylsham and followed that up with another away win in the second round against The Woottons, this time 6-1. A third round trip to fellow Premiership side, Horsford, was a potentially tricky game but they eased through with a 7-0 scoreline. They entered the Semi-Finals after beating Gorleston-based Tramways FC 3-1 to set up a last four tie against Micawbers Tavern. Cringleford entered their fifth Final in seven years thanks to an 8-0 win against Micawbers. They will be confident going into the Final having not lost all season.
When asked about the final, Cringleford Veterans Manager, Ecky Limon said: “It’s probably the best thing about Vets football. It’s great to win the league and prove you’re the best team, but as an occasion the County Cup Final is the special one and usually an epic night out after the game. After disappointment in both league and cup last year we built a squad this season with a place in this Final in mind.”
Like their opponents, Sprowston also play in the One Broker Veterans League, but in a lower Division, the Championship. After receiving a bye in the opening round and a walkover in the second, the Boars hosted Kings Arms Crusaders in the third round. They progressed with a 2-1 win to set up a challenging Quarter-Final match against higher opposition, Mulbarton Wanderers. Sprowston scored the only goal of the game to reach the Semi-Finals and a match against Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers for a place in the Final. After 90 minutes the teams couldn’t be separated after drawing 1-1, but the Boars held their nerve from the penalty mark and progressed winning 4-3 on penalties.
When speaking about the final, Sprowston Manager, James Brown said: “It’s a decent achievement in our first season, the club is obviously really pleased that we can represent in the orange and black tonight. The season so far has been very promising. If anyone would have said at the start of the season that we would be in a cup final and still loosely in the hunt for promotion I would have bitten their arm off.”
