Wymondham Town compete in the Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination, Division 2 and were crowned champions this season after only losing two matches since the turn of the year. A bye, a 2-1 win against Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers Reserves and a 7-1 victory against Hempnall set up a fourth round match at home to Wells Town Reserves. Braces from Aaron Kay and Cadan Hill, and a goal from Joe Woodcock were enough to put Town into the quarter-finals, where they beat Poringland Wanderers by scoring the only goal of the game. A hard-fought 3-1 win against lower-league side, South Walsham in the semi-finals mean that Wymondham are back into the Junior Cup final for the first time since 1960.

When asked about the final, Wymondham Town’s Darren Maxey said: “I’ve never been involved in a Cup Final before but that’s not important. In our first season in Junior football and hopefully the last it may be the only opportunity for the First Team to win the Junior Cup. We have a lot of lads who have won trophies and have been involved with successful teams, but the older you get the more you need to enjoy them. For the Club, it would be a fitting end to the work everyone has put in this year.”

AC Mill Lane play in the same League and Division as their opponents but finished in a respectable eighth position after winning ten and drawing eight of their 26 league matches. Similarly to their opponents, AC Mill Lane also received a bye in the first round. Wins against Belton and Briston handed a favourable fourth round home tie to Shrublands, a game in which they won 11-1. A mammoth away trip to Denver in the West of the County saw Mill Lane return home with a place in the semi-final thanks to a 3-2 scoreline. Another tricky away match followed with a trip to The Highfield to take on Norton Athletic. However, three unanswered goals booked their place in the final at Harrod Sport Arena.

When asked about the final, AC Mill Lane Manager, Steve Hemp said: “The final is massive for us! Every year winning the County Cup is the target for us, and so many other teams, but ultimately there can only be one winner. The lads have worked so hard to get us here and I hope we get our rewards for all that hard work with a win. Winning would mean everything to us. The journey has been great so far and I’ve enjoyed having the input of the whole family along the way. This is a fantastic group of players who are a special bunch of lads and there’s nothing more they deserve than to win this game.”
