Windmill FC are this year’s Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup Winners by beating Acle Rangers 4-2 at Carrow Road last night.

After 10 minutes Windmill FC took the lead when Jordan Stanton picked the ball up just in the Acle half and drove towards the goal. He beat two players before he calmly chipped the ball over the head of Scott Foreman in the Acle goal. This delicate dink was a super effort from just outside the area and deserved to put Windmill into the lead.

Less than five minutes later Acle got the goal that they had been searching for. Rangers scored a wonderful team goal with a period of possession leading to a cute back heel in the box to set up Aaron Sanders slot the ball past the keeper.

Acle dominated the rest of the first half but were unable to convert any of their chances. The best chance came just before the half time whistle when a free kick launched into the box was headed down to the feet of a Rangers forward. He blazed his effort just wide of the post from 8 yards out meaning it was all square at the break.

Half Time – Windmill 1-1 Acle Rangers

Acle came out and started the second half like they finished the first, on the front foot. Their positive forward play was rewarded when Sam Whiting danced around the Windmill defence and calmly slotted the ball through the legs of the on rushing keeper. The ball just crossed the line despite the best efforts of the defender on the line.

Windmill equalised when Chad Pillar climbed the highest from a free kick, he won the header at the far post and nodded the ball back across the face of the goal into the bottom corner.

Windmill took the lead again with nine minutes left to play when Mitch McKay slotted the ball into the roof of the net past the on rushing Scott Foreman, in the Acle goal. Windmill secured that their defence of the Sunday Senior Cup was complete when Adam Thompson scored in the last few minutes with a bullet header into the bottom corner of the goal.
