Norfolk Senior Cup Preview 2018
This year’s Norfolk Senior Cup sees Downham Town take on Norwich United on Monday 30th April. KO 7:30pm, at Carrow Road.
Downham started their cup run with a bye in the first round. In the second round they faced a tough Swaffham Town side; the score was 3-3 at full time meaning the game headed to extra time. Both sides scored a goal in extra time meaning the score after 120 minutes was 4-4. Downham then eventually won 5-4 on penalties meaning they progressed to the third round where they met Norwich CEYMS. They breezed past Norwich CEYMS by winning comfortably 3-0. Town then faced a difficult away trip to Great Yarmouth Town which they won 3-2 putting them one game from the final. Downham faced a side from a much lower division in the shape of Wymondham Town in the semi-final, which they comfortably won 3-0 putting them into this year’s Senior Cup Final.
Norwich United entered this year’s Senior Cup in the third round when they met Sheringham FC. They had a comfortable afternoon against Sheringham as they won convincingly 7-1. In the quarter-final United faced much tougher opposition in King’s Lynn. However, this didn’t stop them brushing them aside as they won 5-0 against the Linnets. In the semi-final, United played Dereham Town at The FDC, Field of Dreams. Once again the opposition were no match to the Planters as they cruised into the final beating the Magpies 4-0.
