Away tie for Norfolk in the FA County Youth Cup last 16

Norfolk Under 18’s have been drawn away to Leicestershire and Rutland FA U18’s in the last 16 of the FA County Youth Cup.

Leicestershire are yet to play in the Midlands Counties Youth League this season, but a 2-1 win away at West Riding sets up what will be an interesting tie.

That draw follows Norfolk’s recent clash with Bedfordshire on the 2 November, which required extra time, a man of the match performance from goalkeeper Billy Johnson and a crucial match winning goal from Wroxham’s Chay Oliver in the 110th minute to send us into the next round.

Norfolk have made a sensational start so far this season as they currently have a 100% record in the league, scoring twelve goals in just two games and are yet to concede a goal in all competitions. Upcoming opponents Leicestershire are yet to play in the Midlands Counties Youth League this season, however a 2-1 win away at West Riding saw the County set up what we hope will be an interesting tie.

It is the furthest stage of the competition Norfolk has reached under the management of Adam Gusterson, Olly Willis and Chris Linehan. The last time Norfolk reached this stage was back in the 2012/13 season, where the Greens managed to reach the Quarter Final stages.

Manager Adam Gusterson was understandably delighted with Norfolk’s performance last time out as they turn their attention to the next round:

"I was absolutely delighted for the boys that managed to get the win against Bedfordshire in a game that could have gone either way. Credit must be given to Beds who set up really well and made it very difficult for us to find the flow, and despite us controlling large parts of the game, they always carried a threat.

The lads were challenged mentally as well as physically with the game going into Extra Time and I was delighted with the way we stuck together and dealt with the pressure which is what is require to be successful in cup football.

It’s an exciting draw for us and one which we are very much looking forward to. We will expect Leicestershire to be strong but in Representative football you cannot fixate your focus too much on the opposition; it is about what we do and I am confident that if we perform to the levels we know we can do it will take a very good side to get the better of us."
